Welcome to my website, and to my books!

The first book came about by accident. I had been writing poems and humourous essays for a dog magazine for many years and the editor suggested that I turned these into a book. Easier said than done! Months went by without any inspiration as to theme, structure or much else then my first Dalmatian Polly died after a short illness and suddenly I had a purpose. "Polly And Friends" was finally completed as a "celebration of dogs and dog life" in her memory and has now been released.
The photographs in the book are all reproduced with the permission of the photographers, many of whom are amateurs but there are some stunning shots. I am grateful to the "Azz" the Administrator of the "Dogsey" website
http://www.dogsey.com/ for allowing me to beg contributions from members, and also to offer the book as a competition prize.

The first review of "Polly and Friends" said:
"I consider Gill's poems outstandingly brilliant, with a rare touch of genius. The poems cover the spectrum of dog ownership, ranging from the hilariously funny to empathising with the sadder side of owning dogs..... every concern and mood swing relating to dogs will be recognisable."

For more details, review and extracts from the book, go to the "Polly And Friends" page. Buy your copy from this site and receive a SIGNED copy and free P&P. A second book is now completed and being queried with a literary agent - "The Declan Diaries". This is a novel with the central character a Dalmatian dog, Declan,  who observes his owner's attempts to sort out her complicated life with surprising results. Best described as a modern romance with plenty of humour, "The Declan Diaries" shows human behaviour at it's best - and it's worst! Updates will appear on this site when more news is available.

The next project is another novel, based - as all my books are - on personal experience, in this case my new life in Ireland after 49 years in Britain. Called "Letters From a Greener Land" the book chronicles the life and times of the central character Louise as she settles in rural Ireland, through letters to a friend " back home". Often hilarious, sometimes sad, the differences between the old life and the new are brought vividly to life as Louise falls under the spell of the Emerald Isle.
